The fourth generation Laguna will not be manufactured, instead a new model will replace it. The Renault had decided to change the successor name to Talisman. It is probably to start over with a clean slate and boost sales. The name Talisman was taken from the luxury concept displayed at Frankfurt Motor Show few years ago. Unlike the concept car, which had gullwing doors, Talisman will be a four-door sedan. The new Renault Talisman is 4.85 meters long which makes it full 15 cms longer than the current laguna. The dimensions make it very similar to its arch-rival Volkswagen Passat and Ford Mondeo. Renault had created a fairly large D-segment car. According to the French manufacturer, both interior space and storage are best in the class. Even the trunk has more volume and measures 608 liters compared to Mondeo with 550 liters and Passat 586 liters. There is plenty of inner space for passengers. The knee clearance for back passengers is 26.2 cms and 25 liters of space is available for storage compartment. For extra cargo space, the seats can be folded in 60/40 configuration.
Engine wise, the Talisman comes with three diesel and two petrol options. The diesel engines consist of dCi110, dCi130 and dCi160 developing 110 hp, 130 hp and 160 hp respectively. The dCi110 and dCi130 comes with both manual and automatic gearbox while dCi160 is only equipped with automatic gearbox. The petrol engines called Energy TCe 150 and Energy TCe 200. Both are equipped with EDC dual clutch transmission. Renault has worked a lot on comfort and driving characteristics. Four wheel steering is designed and developed for feedback and accuracy. It features active suspension where driver can choose between different settings namely comfort, sport, eco-neutral and personalized. The interior of Talisman differs from its siblings Espace and Kadjan which got updated recently. The large screen available in 7 and 8.7 inches dominates the central console. The meter displays information in digital form. Also available is head-up display to show essential information on the front shield.
The exterior too resembles with the rest of model line-up. Especially in the front with its deep grill and large Renault badge. Full LED headlights have got a peculiar style, thanks to LED daytime running lights running down in an arc form under each headlight. The rear end has a style of its own. It looks more luxurious and will appeal to many customers. The overall impression is, Renault has created a new model that feels like a German product. The new Renault Talisman will be available to customers in spring 2016.
