Earlier this week, we bought leaked pictures and facts about the new BMW 2-Series Coupe, but now we can finally present the official photos and details. For the first time BMW has a 2 series in the program. It’s about coupe version of the BMW 1 Series, which is logically renamed two series in the same way as the rest of model line-up. In recent years, rumors about front wheel drive BMW models spun off considerably, but BMW 2-Series Coupe is still a rear-wheel drive car. BMW 2-series gets classic coupe design and seating for four. The newcomer is 7.2 inches longer, 2.4 inches wider and seven millimeters lower than 1 Series Coupe. It has 30 mm longer wheelbase, resulting in a more spacious interior and a larger trunk that now takes 390 liters of cargo. It weighs approximately 1375 kilograms and has a perfect weight distribution around axle (50:50). BMW also promises more efficient aerodynamics.
The new coupe according to BMW will be more fun to drive than regular 1 series due to wider track. BMW 2 series buyers can choose from five engines. 220i with 184 hp, 218d with 143 hp, 220d with 184 hp, 225d with 218 hp and top model M235i with 326 horses. The latter may also possess unique M chassis, M Sport brakes, electronically controlled limited slip differential and some aerodynamic updates. Two solid finishes are offered as exterior color, along-with ten metallic finishes. Those who check the box for the M Sport package also get the special Estoril Blue as an option.
«Driving Experience Control» is standard on the BMW 2 series, and it means that you can choose the character in three or four settings depending on equipment. Comfort, Sport and Eco Pro is available on all 2-Series Coupe models, but if you want more sporty option a «Sport+» setting is available with automatic transmission, M Sport Package, BMW Sport Line, Adaptive M suspension and variable sports steering. By selecting different options, the character of car is changed. the change is experienced in throttle response, shift timings in the automatic transmission, power steering response and shock absorb characteristics.
Optional navigation package is also available. The system can suggest appropriate time to release the throttle in case of decending downhill. The M235i will be equipped with 225/40 R18 front and 245/35 R18 rear tires to provide extra grip. An optional 19 inch package is are also available. BMW says the rear seats are larger than the previous 1 Series Coupe. Access to the rear seats is done by pressing a command that automatically advances the sidewalk and then one has to lower the backrest by hand. All new BMW 2 series will be showcased at Detroit Motor show in January,2014. According to BMW USA the price for two models are announced. The 228i will cost USD 33,025 and USD 44,025 for the performance variant M235i. The 2 series coupe will go on sale in March 2014.
