At Detroit Motor Show, General Motors showed the new Corvette Z06 with supercharged V8 engine with an impressive power output of 625 hp. Further in the stands was the new racing version, the Corvette C7.R. Compared to the outgoing racing model Corvette C6.R, the chassis is 40 percent stiffer as the mechanicals are shared by current Z06. The engine however is naturally aspirated 5.5 liter V8 due to racing regulations. The output figures are unknown.
Chevrolet Corvette C7.R has an updated suspension system, wider wheels and bigger brakes. For the first time it has got direct injection which results in three percent better fuel economy as it is also crucial for the race. In addition, it is also equipped with aerodynamic updates like front splitter, hood ventilation, rear diffuser, tilted radiator(for better cooling) and huge rear wing. It also produce the highest down-force ever created by any corvette so far. Race debut for Corvette C7.R will take place on Jan 23 at the Rolex 24 at Daytona. The C7.R will also be competing in TUDOR — United sports car championship series.
