General Motors had revealed the most important and eagerly awaited car of the year, the new Chevrolet Corvette C7. The first impressions are fabulous. It looks like modern European supercar and carries DNA of pure american muscle. The C7 corvette is suitably named Stingray similar to second and third generation corvettes. The seventh generation corvette has received a more angular design as compared to its predecessor. For the first time it has lost round tail lights and headlights are equipped with LED sections stretched vertically. On the Edge of the trunk a small spoiler with an integrated wide stop signal is installed and beautiful four pipe exhaust system are centrally located at the bottom.
GM had very carefully design corvette addressing all previous issues reported by Corvette C6 owners. Trunk space has increased and the seats are more comfortable. The C6 corvette has a pretty basic interior but Corvette C7 Stingray have made a significant step forward in interior design. The center console deployed to the driver creates a sense of cockpit. The interior is build using better materials like carbon fiber and aluminum.
Inside there is a command system called “Driver Mode Selector” which allows you to change some aspects of driving. For example, you can modify the engine response to every movement of the accelerator, the operation of the transmission, the engine management (including operation at four or eight cylinders), the exhaust system (to do more or less noise) and suspension adjustment.
The instrument panel of C7 is fully electronic. It can be configured according to the selected mode which can be changed through switch located on the dashboard. Although the main indicators are projected on the windshield. The Corvette C7 stingray has an aluminum frame. Hood and detachable portion of the roof are made of carbon fiber which had increased torsional rigidity by 57 percent. Due to the use of lighter materials C7 weighs 45 kg less than Corvette C6. The new supercar is equipped with electronic shock absorbers and transverse leaf springs. According to GM, C7 supercar has ideal weight distribution of 50/50.
The Corvette C7 Stingray has a naturally aspirated direct injection 6.2 liter V8 LT1 engine. It has continuously variable valve timing and cylinder deactivation which can shut off four cylinder while normal driving in order to save fuel. The engine develops 450 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque as a result the new Corvette can achieve 0-60 mph under 4.0 seconds. The engine can be coupled to a six speed manual, six speed automatic or seven speed Tremec TR6070 automatic gearboxes. The new seven speed gearbox is equipped with device that provides smooth shift during low engine speed. It is functionally similar to Nissan 370Z and Porsche 911 gearboxes.
In addition to the basic version, there will also be a sports version is called ‘Z51’. The changes will be larger wheels, a rear differential locking, more powerful brakes, variable suspension adjustment and specific air sockets to cool the body mechanical elements like differential and brakes.
