The design of Mazda 6 and CX-5 is well recognized and now it is time to get acquainted with Golf and Focus challenger Mazda 3. Brilliant eye catching design, less weight, more space and efficient engines are offered to customers in order to take lead in the very competitive segment. Special emphasis is given on reducing weight by reducing 60 kilograms on petrol variant and 90 kilograms on diesel models. According to the company, new Mazda 3 will also be one of the quietest and least noisy models in its segment.
Mazda 3 is 4.465 cm long, 1.795 cm wide and 1.450 cm high. It is half-inch longer than its predecessor, but 40 millimeters wider and 20 millimeters higher. The wheelbase has grown by six inches which means that interior space has grown and rear seat probably provide some extra inches to your legs. Luggage compartment volume is slightly increased to 350 liters from 340 liters previously.
Mazda is initially offering three gasoline engines and a diesel option for European countries. In United states only gasoline engine will power Mazda 3. Mazda claims that fuel consumption is lowest in the class. The new 1.5-liter gasoline engine produce 100 hp which should be enough for achieving 0-60 mph in 10.8 seconds. Two variants of 2.0 liter gasoline engine develops 120 and 165 hp with claimed 0- 60 mph timings in 8.9 and 8.2 seconds respectively. The 2.2 liter diesel engine develops 150 hp and accelerates from 0-60 mph in 8.1 seconds. Six speed manual gear box is standard and automatic transmission is available as an option for 1.5 liter gasoline and 2.2 liter diesel variant only.
Mazda 3 will be built at new plant in Mexico. Upcoming models will be Mazda 3 sedan as well as a hybrid model. Sales in United States will start beginning fall and will be available in European countries in early, 2014. As good as it looks, it is going to be a best seller for Mazda if it retains all claims made by the company.
