After the new A-class and CLA, it is the turn of all new Mercedes S class to recieve an AMG treatment. The new Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG is the most powerful version of the S class. It produces 585 hp, is equipped with seven speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system. According to company it is 100 kilograms(220 pounds) lighter than the model it replaces. With the introduction of this model Mercedes has put luxury and sportiness to a new level. Apart from sporty nature, the S class has to be smart and sober. The car draws attention by its sublime aura of superiority. Mercedes S 63 AMG is a performance beast yet certainly elegance is still the greatest virtue of its appearance.
The S 63 AMG has a new bumper with more aerodynamic curve which overall feels not much different than original model. The rear bumper with few curves consists of four sporty exhaust(two each side). A standard 19 inch tires (255/45 in front and 285/40 rear) are available. An optional 20 inch wheels and Ceramic disc brakes are also available on this model. Regardless of type of traction, all versions of S 63 AMG are equipped with an ESP and has a feature called “Dynamic Curve Assist”. This feature slows the rear wheel slightly at the curve to improve cornering speed and reduce the tendency to under-steer. There are are two available suspension system on this car. The standard rear wheel driven version has “Magic Body Control” which use a stereoscopic camera to identify the uneven surface and adjust to step over them. It is the same system available in S 500 but the S 63 AMG dampers make the body swing less. The second type available is 4MATIC suspension with a thicker front stabilizer bar called “AMG RIDE CONTROL”. It is based on AIRMATIC system.
From the inside one can notice the distinctive AMG is all over upholstery of the seats, armrests and steering wheel. A simple yet spectacular combination of carbon fiber in the dashboard. A specific instrument panel with the touch of AMG which includes many indicators for engine oil, temperature and transmission. The AMG is embossed on doors, mats, steel pedals. An ambient lighting is also present which adds new details and hence make set even more exquisite. Apart from these goodies as standard, Mercedes also offer an optional Carbon Fiber bonnet and Nappa leather steering wheel.
Under the hood of Mercedes S 63 AMG is a 5.5 liter V8 twin-turbo engine that delivers a total of 585 hp at 5,500 rpm(41 hp more than its predecessor) and a torque of 900 Nm(664 Lb-ft) at 3350-3750 rpm. The engine is linked to a seven speed automatic gearbox called “AMG Speed-shift MCT 7” which is a Dual Clutch transmission with variable modes namely C (Controlled efficiency), M (Manual) and S (Sport). With this engine Mercedes S 63 AMG is capable in reaching 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds. With all wheel drive 4MATIC system available on board the car conquer 0-100 km/hr in 4 seconds. Top speed for this luxury sports saloon is electronically limited to 250 km/hr(155 mph). The average fuel consumption is 10.1 l/100 km for short body version with RWD and 10.3 l/100 km for the long and AWD version.
Mercedes S 63 AMG will go on sale later this year at a price of 150,000 EUR for short-wheelbase version and 152,500 EUR for long-wheelbase version. A more expensive an sporty version Mercedes S 65 AMG with bi-turbo V12 will debut next year.
