Porsche has unveiled the new 911(991) Targa at Detroit Motor Show today. In recent years, the 911 Targa was basically a coupe model with large glass roof. Now, however the classic aluminum arch is introduced which reminds us of the 1965 retro model. Roof portion can be opened electrically and also with the help of remote control. The rear window and the aluminum frame are solid. The term Targa was first used by Porsche in 1960 in memory of one of the most iconic races in Europe during the 1920s and 1930s.
Porsche 911 Targa share technology under the hood with the rest of the 911 family. The entry level Targa 4 model gets a 3.4 liter engine with 350 hp while the Targa 4S model gets a 3.8-liter engine developing 400 horses. The price will be slightly higher than the coupe version. Unlike the 997 series, the 991 Targa will have exclusive all wheel drive versions.
