Volkswagen is planning a hybrid version of the Golf which will share technology with Audi A3 e-tron. This model is defined as a super clean vehicle and can be recharged from a wall socket in less than four hours. The new model will be called Golf GTE. With this model, Volkswagen wants to demonstrate that hybrid power-train not only means low consumption but also better handling and performance. The sport hybrid model will compliment Golf GTI and GTD.
Audi A3 e-tron has a 1.4 liter turbocharged gasoline engine with 148 hp. It is further combined with an electric motor that produces 102 hp. The power is send to front wheels via six-speed dual clutch transmission. Overall the system develops 204 hp and 350 Nm(258 lb-ft) of torque. The consumption is ultra low at 1.5 liter/100 km. The sprint from 0-60 mph is achieved in 7.5 seconds. Volkswagen Golf GTE will get similar figures when it will be launched. It is expected to arrive in showrooms in early 2016.
